It’s Monday morning and I’m finally sitting at my own kitchen table drinking coffee out of one of my favorite coffee mugs and things feel (mostly) right in my world.
I spent the entire month of September in Wisconsin with my family, it was an unexpected trip. My grandfather was living near my mom for the past 9 months as he battled terminal cancer and when she called me to say that he was admitted to hospice I knew I needed to be with her. Hospice went on longer than expected and so Hugo and I made ourselves at home with Josh flying in for the weekends as he could. It was a difficult month to say the least, but the family time was so, so good. I was able to visit grandpa almost daily for a few weeks and then, after he passed, help with all of the details of planning a funeral and hosting friends.
Coming home to Alabama has been the best thing I’ve experienced in a long time, I might have forgotten how much I love living here. Well, not really, I adore this place. The season changed while I was in Wisconsin, I was living out of a carry-on and re-wearing the sweater I packed over and over. I made a mental note to unpack my winter clothing as soon as possible, only to arrive home and realize that it was 90 degrees out. Still summer as far as I’m concerned!
Josh arrived home late Friday night and I, not so graciously, unloaded my bad attitudes from the week onto him. Y’all, having a traveling spouse is really hard. I’m not even going to pretend here, it’s very difficult and there are a lot of rough days that come with it. When you combine that with BOTH of us being gone, there was some ugliness coming out of me that I needed to dig down the bottom of and I’m grateful to have the husband that I do. He kindly worked it out with me and jumped in to sharing the load of raising our toddler-boy. I had been counting down the days ’til we got another slow Saturday together. We went to the zoo, I cooked and baked, went to church and took some time to plan ahead for the next few weeks.
This week is looking good, I’m excited to jump back into my Mom’s Group, we’re reading this book and every page is so convicting. I’m dying to bake something pumpkin, in spite of the warm weather! We’re having a colleague of Josh’s over for dinner this week and I have some intense prep work coming up as I prepare to host friends as well as thanksgiving at the beach.
Tell me, what are you wearing this week? Shorts or sweaters?
I'd love to hear from you, leave a comment below!
