We had a spontaneous family trip on Valentine Day weekend to West Palm Beach, Florida. Josh was already there for a work event so Hugo and I flew down to meet him. We ate good food, hung out at the beach and enjoyed time with my wonderful in-laws who ended up joining us for a few days. This was my first time in West Palm and I loved it.
The funniest thing we did, after about a dozen recommendations from friends and random people in the airport, was take Hugo to Lion Country Safari. Josh even remembers going here as a kid, its a giant safari park full of animals and you drive your car through the whole experience. The lions were behind fences, but all of the other animals were just roaming around, huge beasts just coming up to your car and looking at you through the window. A little nerve-wracking but we loved it!
My favorite father-in-law and mother-in-law! Honestly though, I love them both to pieces.
It was such a quick trip that I don’t have many restaurant recommendations for you, but I had complied a list of recommendation before we left and we did end up eating at quite a few. I try to always look ahead since Josh has a pretty severe gluten intolerance and because it’s hard to eat well when you’re starving and looking for a restaurant on the fly.
A few great spots in WPB:
Surf Side Diner: a wonderful, nostalgic-feeling breakfast joint. I grew up in a small vacation town so I felt very at home with the crowd of retired couples wearing gucci loafers and the young families eating pancakes.
Amici Brick Oven Pizza: this is where we ended up at on Valentines Day for dinner after our first two picks turned out to have impossible wait times. I called ahead to order gluten free pizzas and our plan was to take them back to our hotel, but there happened to be an open booth when we arrived so we stayed and ate. Amazing gluten free pizza and the owner was so friendly and sweet.
Avocado Grill: a gorgeous restaurant! Great gluten free options and worth adding to your list.
Meraki Juice Kitchen: Everything on the menu is gluten free, dairy free and vegan, and amazing! We took our group here for lunch on Sunday and ended up ordering a ton of items off the menu so that we could try a bit of everything. It was so healthy and fresh and we even topped it off with their vegan ice cream for dessert.
Johan’s Joe Coffee House: This scandinavian coffee house not only had great coffee, but the interior is really fun and a great spot to stay and chat. I ordered my usual americano with cream and it was really fantastic. Don’t miss the imported treats from Sweden, I 100% bought myself a bag of the Swedish fish gummies.
