Hugo’s bedroom is one of my next projects and I wanted to share some of my inspiration as well as a few pieces that I’ve picked out and ordered. Since he’s transitioning from a toddler bed to a full size and with our recent move, this is the perfect time for him to have a “big boy room”. My vision for this space is a very classic, Ralph Lauren inspired, with strong colors and patterns with some stylish pieces that give it a collected, layered feel.
I had an idea of the direction I wanted to go with his room since I had to choose his paint color back in March. My mom helped me pick “Secluded Woods” by Behr and it is such a beautiful bold hunter green. He also loves it and I like that makes his room so cozy at night. (Click here for the BEFORE tour of our house, his room is about halfway down the page)
His bed was an absolute score from our neighborhood Facebook group (FREE AMERICAN DOLLARS!) and is antique dark wood with a classic headboard, footboard and little carved corner posts. I also love that it’s a full size so we can use his room as extra guest room if we needed. The wall that I currently have his bed centered on has only a small space for a nightstand so I’m still deciding between a super modern looking piece (maybe acrylic?) or keeping with an antique theme and adding a small wooden table. I’m a huge fan of hotel bedding with white sheets and fluffy duvets, but for a toddler I’m going with wrinkle-free sheets and a navy quilt. The fancy side of me would also love to add one of these amazing Hermes blankets to the end of his bed, but my practicality will override and I’ll probably just order this blanket and take advantage of the fact that his monogram is an “H”.
My original plan was for a dark blue and green tartan curtain, but after looking at THOUSANDS of curtain options over the last few months I finally found these today. I chose the brown to warm up the space a little and I’m hoping the color looks as good in person. They’ll be delivered this weekend and we can finally get rid of the (so embarrassing…) blanket that I’ve had over his window to block out the light.
Toy storage is always a struggle when decorating a child’s room, you want the room to be useful and feel special for them, but the sheer volume of toys, animals and books can drive you crazy! I’m planning to order these clear, acrylic bookshelves and use them to display some of his favorite books. I’m also on the lookout for a giant wicker chest for some toys and stuffed animals. The rest of EVERYTHING will be stored in boxes that slide under his bed like these, I’ve made myself promise to start rotating his toys again, I feel like this will be a really good system!
For the finishing touches, I’m wanting to do a little gallery wall of art and keep it to an equestrian theme. Since our home is a colonial style and we live in Nashville, I thought the horses would be such a sweet look. We are updating the all of the light fixtures on the second story and the carpet sometime in the next few months, I’ll share the details on those items later.
More to come soon!
