Josh and I are celebrating our fifth anniversary today and I couldn’t be more amazed at how the time has gone by.
It feels a little funny to dig out photos from our wedding five years ago and to write an entire post, but when I look back, I realized that I never had the opportunity to share a lot of the photos and the things that meant a lot to us on our wedding day. In the span of 6 months I got married, moved 800 miles south, found out we were expecting Hugo (I spent over half of my pregnancy in bed with HG) and then moved again to live on a film set. By the time life had settled back down “kinda…” the wedding was long past. For a while now I’d thought it would be so fun to write about some of my favorite memories of our wedding day.
We had so many special details from our wedding, I’m sure they went unnoticed by guests, and that’s okay because they were mostly for us anyway. Josh and I liked to joke that the theme of our wedding was “sentimental”. He is as nostalgic as I am and so we planned for many little meaningful things throughout the day.
My Wedding Veil
I bought my veil with the vision that it was to be shared or “borrowed” out. I’m the first of my sisters to get married and wanted something very classic (it’s a full cathedral length with a blusher and I loved wearing it!) that they or friends could wear if they so chose. So far my sister-in-law Rach wore my veil when she married my brother Daniel and my sweet friend Kathryn wore it for her wedding too. I hope it continues to have many happy uses!
Josh’s Wedding Ring
He mentioned very early in the planning that the only wedding ring he wanted was a claddagah ring, just like his grandfather wore. I ordered it straight from Ireland and thanks to his giant ring size they were able to inscribe it with the words “heart of my heart”, a line from the ancient hymn Be Thou My Vision.
Our Silhouette Artist
When you don’t have dancing at your wedding (we’re the worst dancers and our venue was out of space) you have to find something for the people to do! My sister Brooke had the idea to hire a silhouette artist. She was amazing! Our guests could sit and have her cut out a custom silhouette for each of them, there was a line all night. I still see them hanging up in our friends homes. Cassidy Alexander is the artist.
My Something Old
My “something old” was from my mom and my mother-in-law’s wedding dresses. I sewed some of the lace daisies from my mother-in-law’s dress onto the inside of my sleeve. And mom had a sash made for me out of her wedding dress, it was so special, the seamstress even saved a row of silk buttons from her original dress and added it to the sash. We had my new monogram embroidered onto the front and I wore it during the reception.
Red Carpet Receiving Line
I’m going to just go ahead and pat myself on the back here for my brilliance! Our venue was a historic building in my hometown, beautiful but funky (as they are), and we had to create a flow of our guests around a courtyard. We set up an entire red carpet and backdrop as our receiving line in the hallway. It gave us a chance to greet each guest, our photographer took a photo of us with each one or party and then we sent them off to “mocktail hour”. It was so much fun to add a little bit of movie magic since Josh works in film and I later printed all the photos and mailed them with our thank you notes. I love this picture here of our nephew Brandon, gosh! he’s grown so much since we took this one.
Our wedding photography was by Joy Lyn Photography. Here is a link to more of our wedding photos just in case you feel like taking a trip down memory lane with me.
