There are a few famous spots here, but one of the most is Panini Pete’s in Fairhope, right in the heart of downtown. They were featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and Guy Fieri pronounced their smoked turkey “the state bird of Flavortown”. He really cracks me up, Triple-D is one of my comfort shows. I can assure you that Panini Pete deserves every bit of good press he has received.
Although it’s very casual dining, this would be my #1 choice of a place to eat in Fairhope. It’s is incredibly kid friendly, they offer gluten free sandwiches and the location is perfect. Since the restaurant is in the Little French Quarter, there is a beautiful courtyard that is good for active little ones. Really wonderful for getting wiggles out while waiting for the food.
What We Ordered:
I usually order the Muffalata on sourdough (listed on 100 Things to Eat in Alabama Before You Die). Today, on a whim, I changed it up for the House Roasted Turkey Panini. It was so good! Hugo had the Turkey, Motz and Honey Mustard Panini and it was also really great. We did not order the beignets this time because I had long day of parenting ahead of me… You should definitely go for it though. Beignets and an iced cafe au lait are the perfect treat before heading out to the park! (I like them better than Cafe du Monde in New Orleans…)
Where We Went:
Next to the parking lot for Panini Pete’s is a giant park called the Fairhoper’s Community Park with tons of activities and a splash pad. It’s great, but I’m going to let you in on a little secret… If you turn down Fels Avenue and head towards the bay, there is a little fenced-in park that is not very well known. I prefer it because it’s easier to keep an eye on your kiddo and we usually get the place to ourselves.
Have you been to Panini Pete’s in Fairhope? What did you order?
