We bought our home almost two years ago and while we had the best of intentions to quickly update our classic 1990s brick home, life and the pandemic got in the way. We knew that our bathroom renovation would be one the most biggest improvements we needed to make. Since the bathrooms were mostly just ugly and still fully functioning, we were able to put them off for a while. A few years later, a leak in the tub, a broken shower door and a steady stream of house guests… The time has come!
I was telling Josh, as I was up to my pearls in sourcing fixtures the other day, that I was actually really grateful that it worked out this way. I believe that it’s important to live in a space for a while before taking on big projects. We have such a clear vision for what we want, as well how “we” use a space and our flow as a family. Funny enough, our bathroom is one of the most used rooms in the house. Since our closet is attached and with a giant bathtub, it’s not uncommon first thing in the morning for Hugo to be splashing around while Josh gets ready and I do my hair and makeup.
Whole House Color Palette:
Something I’ve been working towards since we bought our home is a Whole House Color Palette. Putting these limitations in place for myself have actually made decisions a lot easier for decorating and renovating. My main colors are white, navy, green and black. We’ve used the same few paint colors throughout the house to keep a cohesive flow and I’ve loved mixing antique finds with cooler, modern pieces. I think it honors the traditional, colonial brick style of the house while being true to my classic, preppy personal style. It is still such a work in progress, but I’ve enjoyed it so far (don’t ask Josh how he feels about slowly putting a home together…)
Our Bathroom Renovation:
We’re doing almost a full gut of this room. Extending the shower and squaring off the closet (weird 90s bathroom angles.) I’m most excited about our black clawfoot tub! I think it will add such a bold pop of color to the space. Our linoleum floors will be covered tiles that look like wood to match our hardwoods downstairs. I’m planning to source a few antique pieces like art and brass towel hooks. I’m also including some beautiful feminine details like the beveled mirrors and a chandelier.
Demo starts this week or next on our bathroom renovation and I almost won’t believe it til I see it! I can’t wait to show you all the final product in a few months.
