I’ve been focusing on Slow Fashion this year (read my original post here) and took a bit of a break from shopping the first 3 months of this year. It was an unintentional break and I maybe bought 5 items of clothing over that entire time, but I really wanted to scale back and force myself to make do. Two separate times I panicked and almost ran out to buy an outfit before events, and both times I ended up wearing my trusty black jumpsuit and realized that I was just fine and didn’t really didn’t need anything new.
At the moment I’m in between houses and wardrobes and the weather is about to turn much warmer here on the gulf. I do need a few new pieces and I wanted to plan out this next “season” well and focus my budget on the important things. I keep a lot of ideas on Pinterest and then will re-pin photos into specific boards for seasons or trips. You can check out my Spring/Summer board here.
Season: Spring/Summer 2022
Style Goals: Casual, chic, preppy. Stripes, blue/white, linen. Just your classic all-American summer.
Trends: I think we all know that this is not the place to come for on the latest on any trend! Can I just say that there is hardly anything in the stores right now that excites me. Y2K: too triggering. Neon: not with my skin tone. Baggy jeans: that’s a no for me.
I do love monochromatic outfits, easy everyday dresses and the clear strap sandals. But this is pretty basic stuff, never not really in style. “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” This is your reminder to wear what you love.
Events/Upcoming:
- CA trip
- Move back to TN
- Awards show red carpet (I will most likely use a clothing rental service for this.)
- Easter
- Lots of park days
My top 10 Clothing Pieces for my Spring/Summer 2022 Wardrobe:
- White Kick-flare jeans – my expectations are low, it will probably take me all summer to find these.
- Boyfriend jeans – looking for an updated pair of straight leg jeans.
- Denim Cut-off Shorts – already a pair I bought from LOFT last year.
- White Denim Cut-off Shorts – making my own with a pair of secondhand jeans
- Linen Shorts – sewing my own based off of this pattern.
- Linen Tank – sewing my own based off of this tank from J. Crew.
- White Blouse – One of my most worn items of clothing, thinking of buying this blouse.
- Striped Tops – I have two.
- White Tee Shirt – I don’t care how much you spend on a white tee, they only last so long. Need a new one or three.
- Dresses – I collect summer dresses. An easy dress on a hot, Southern day, there is nothing better.
Accessories for Spring/Summer 2022
- Veja Sneakers – I’ve had my eye on these sneakers for the past 2 years, I need to sit down and decide which color I’m ordering and just do it. (I have been stalking Poshmark for a new-ish pair)
- Modern brown leather flat sandal – I’m looking for something that is perfect with shorts and dresses, so far nothing I’ve not seen anything I’ve liked.
- LL Bean Boat & Tote – There is nothing like the classic! I’m going to treat myself to a new summer tote and go ahead and get that baby monogrammed too.
Disclaimer: Not every brand that I have linked is considered sustainable or slow fashion. I am using these images mainly as inspiration for my spring/summer look. My goal is to source as much from secondhand sources as I can, sew several of my own pieces, and then make do or purchase the remaining items. This is simply my approach to slow fashion and I hope it’s helpful to see one woman’s process.
