I love being a mother. I think that it is hard and difficult work in every single season of your child’s life, but I’ve realized as I’ve looked back over the past few years, that every phase has it’s silver lining. When Hugo was two and wouldn’t nap, I was distraught and it was the only thing I could talk about. Now, I honest to goodness can’t even watch videos of him at the age because he was so precious and it makes my heart actually ache. I don’t care about him napping anymore. Why didn’t someone tell me that he could only wear jon-jons for 4 years?!?
We moved on from jon-jons and I have a whole list of things that I just love about the age we are now. We’ve had some challenging days and nights recently, but the sweetness of having a little boy is really the best (I know little girls are magic too, but I’m a bit partial to my boy right now.) Here’s the thing, little kids are pretty easily impressed.
I started my holiday basket tradition last year and the delight of surprising him with these little treats has brought me even more joy. For me it’s usually just a few extra things from Target thrown into my cart and then popped into his basket. The night before I will put the whole thing on the kitchen counter or in the living room, somewhere where he will see it first thing when he wakes up. Josh and I drink our coffee while he empties the whole basket and it’s just one of my favorite things.
What I put in my little boy’s easter basket:
- New Swimming Trunks (in full disclosure: he will be getting to open these a little early)
- Annies cheddar bunnies. One of our favorite snacks
- Plastic Cup with straw – Target Dollar Spot
- Chocolate bunny – A classic. Must have!
- Peeps Play Dough – Target Dollar Spot find. Peeps without the sugar!
- Carrot socks – Target Dollar Spot – the Walsh men love their socks!
- Sunglasses – Target Dollar Spot
And there you have it! I’m still the biggest fan of our Olli Ella mini picnic basket because I think it’s the perfect size for a little boy’s easter basket (smaller and easier/less expensive to fill). It is so beautiful and classic and while we’ve been very careful with it, it has held up well and I think it will last an entire childhood and beyond.
