It feels like we just arrived home from the Jesus Revolution set (I cant believe that we were gone for 6 months!) these last 2 months have flown by in a sticky, sweet summer haze.
We never could have anticipated the year we would have, especially after we took a giant leap of faith last fall. Josh is currently in post-production for 2 films and in pre-production for one more. Moving around several times in midst of it, oh, and those darn bathroom remodels happening simultaneously.
Josh and I are learning to coexist in the same space during these seemingly never-ending work days. Me with the constant cleaning and cooking and him with back-to-back 3 hour phone calls, constant voice memos (his newest obsession!) and quick meals that can be eaten al-desko. Having his office in the middle of our house has been a new adventure, but I do love having him nearby as he bounces around ideas for casting and location spots. And there are poster mockups, frequent film screenings and new script versions to read every few days.
Our days, nights and weekends are consumed.
Hugo has surprised us all with his natural initiative towards learning numbers and letters over the past few weeks. It’s like we just turned around and suddenly he taught himself simple math and is recognizing letters of the alphabet. I think he’s picked up more over this summer by being curious than he did our entire first year of preschool. It has been a reminder to me of what I feel in my gut about teaching children, when they’re ready, they’re ready. Childhood should not be rushed. Like the time he learned to swim in one day and when he “just” potty trained and that was it. He is smart and capable and I love watching him learn and be so excited and interested in the world around him.
I am attempting to better manage my time and stress and at the same time deep clean the house before I pack for the next film set. I’ve been told this next one is 99% confirmed, unless something crazy happens, it’s a go and I’m already in packing/list writing mode (the new monogrammed sheets are coming with us.)
Mid-July stresses me out as I start to see the school supplies and others recapping what they did. I wonder if we did enough summering. Did we go to the pool enough, could we be eating more watermelon and popsicles, is this as dark as my tan is really going to get? And WHY are the school supplies out already? I can tell you, I’ve only begun to summer. We have lots more planned for the next 2 months.
That’s about all I have for this little ramble today. I think it’s about to storm outside and I’m making a very sensible dinner of roasted salmon and brussels. Josh is on his way back from a meeting and I think we are screening a new cut of the movie tonight.
I'd love to hear from you, leave a comment below!
