I know that we are on our way into 2023 and that March isn’t exactly a month for reminiscing, but I love putting this post together with our yearly highlights. And I especially love looking back at these years in review (see 2020, 2021)
2022 was our “leap of faith” year. After Josh resigned from his job 10 years we weren’t sure if we would continue on in the film industry, but God fulfilled the dreams in our hearts. Josh went on to produce not one, but TWO movies in 2022. It was a whirlwind and we’re so grateful for the opportunities and the places that we were able to go.
January
We began the year while still living in Fairhope, Alabama. We celebrated our little boy’s birthday and took a quick trip to the beach (perks of living near the Gulf coast.)
February
We experienced our first Mardi Gras. I have never seen anything like it in my life. Mobile, Alabama is credited with having the first Mardi Gras celebration. Everything in a 30 mile radius is in full party mode. Josh learned the hard way while trying to keep a film set going, that everyone is out of office. Children are on school break, the parade schedule is a hot topic and king cake is served liberally. We didn’t attend any balls, but we did get stuck in downtown Mobile traffic one night while checking on a friend’s cat. Not the same, but we did experience the the buzz of it all. Good friends of ours were in Fairhope and we all went to the very family-friendly parade downtown. We came home with approximately 1 million beads and a year later, I’m still finding them.
March
We began filming Jesus Revolution (in theaters now, get tickets here!) Those were some long days and night of filming. Josh worked harder than he’d ever worked through protocols, extra’s casting, tornados and freak weather. Some of Josh’s family joined us one week and were cast as background extras. Josh even got into costume for a background role (let me know if you spot him on the big screen, he is visible for a few seconds!)
We also celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary, and here is a fun look back on a day in my life in March 2022.
April
We continued to film Jesus Revolution and had a company move (where every thing and person moves to a new location). Going from Alabama to Orange County, California was intense. Hugo and I found our way with daily trips to the acai bowl shop and watching the sunset from Laguna (I love this post from last year about our time in OC). We were so happy to wrap filming and exhausted as we went back to Alabama a few more weeks.
Before driving home to Nashville, we spent our last few days in Alabama at the beach. Here is a post about our trip to The Lodge at Gulf State Park.
May
We arrived home after 6 months of travel and 3 days later had our plumbing back up into our bathroom. We needed to repipe through the front yard. This kicked off a 2 bathroom remodel, a saga that took FAR too long. I am happy to report we are 99% done (thoughts and prayers for that last 1% please). You can track our progress here. I will be sharing the final reveal of our bathroom later this month!
Hugo went to his first big concert with For King & Country and Josh and I attended the K-LOVE Fan Awards.
June
Josh & I jetted off to Orlando for him to do one of the first promotional events for Jesus Revolution. It was a very quick and fun trip for us. My sister came to visit for a few days and we went to see Ben Rector in concert downtown Nashville.
July
We kicked off with a trip to Birmingham to see family. We met our newest nephew (at the time, there have already been a few fresh ones born!) Here is a hilariously blurry photo of the boy cousins at Bass Pro Shop, running circles around us per usual.
August
We were offered a new film, with the understanding that it had to happen almost immediately. As we read through the script and prayed we felt very strongly that this was the type of project we wanted to be part of.
Things fell into place very quickly and by the end of the month we’d packed up and moved to Louisville, Kentucky for the next 3 months.
We spent a few days before production began on a family vacation to Florida. We’d originally planned a trip Newport, Rhode Island with lobster and old houses and windy ocean walks, but flight cancelations reigned that weekend and not wanting to take a chance on being stranded in an airport, we decided to drive to Destin. Our son discovered body boarding and was a natural, I think he’ll be a surfer like his dad one day.
September
We began production and filming of Unsung Hero in Louisville. It was the most glorious autumn of my life. The leaves were on fire for what felt like months and we quickly settled into a good rhythm for set life. We loved our time and the team truly felt like a big family.
October
We began our kindergarten year and stayed very busy during filming.
November
And that’s a wrap on filming! We finished up the movie and headed home to Nashville at the end of November. On a whim, we flew to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving to spend the holiday with my family. We completely surprised my mom! Josh asked if I planned it so that I didn’t have to cook my own turkey, I can neither confirm nor deny…
December
We joined For King & Country on the road for several concert dates to begin promoting Unsung Hero. We had the best time! Since we were in Florida we were able to visit my grandparents and Josh’s family.
Hugo and Mum!
We wrapped up the year with Christmas and more gratitude in our hearts than we could measure. 2022 felt a lot like the photos in this post, blurry and a bit of a hodgepodge, but mostly filled with really good things.
I'd love to hear from you, leave a comment below!
