Josh and I had a week of Los Angeles travel to finish up post-production. It was a fun trip for us to take together, just the two of us. We spend most of our time making movies outside of Hollywood so it feels surreal whenever we find ourselves driving past the sign or visiting studios or spotting celebrities on the run. This was a fast paced and really enjoyable trip, our team is some of the funniest people I’ve met and I think we laughed most of the week.
Los Angeles Travel: The Food!
We had such amazing food this entire trip! BLUESTONE LANE was an unreal Australian cafe that we picked up for the team one morning. Josh’s gluten free breakfast (brekkie!) sandwich was a thing of beauty.
M. picked Gracias Madre in West Hollywood for lunch and whispered to me that is was “Vegan!!!! But don’t tell the guys!”. Writing this reminds me that I need to order the GRACIAS MADRE COOKBOOK and get going on those recipes ASAP as possible. And that tree in the courtyard! We agreed that someone needs to host a wedding or an album release party or anything here, it was a peaceful oasis all around.
Bodega was walking distance to our hotel and we popped in for charcuterie and gluten free pizza. As a bonus they had gluten free cake for dessert so we ordered a few slices for the table and it was my perfect meal! I loved the classic aesthetic and of course, the patio dining.
But first, Alfreds Coffee in Brentwood. We noticed that Marilyn Monroe’s house was a few blocks away on our map so we drove over and promptly got stuck in a really tight dead end. We were laughing but I felt so bad for the neighbors who must see 21-point turns ALL DAY LONG.
Los Angeles Travel: Suitcase MVP:
These jeans were the MVP of the trip. I haven’t worn them in 6 months due to the heat o’ the southern summer, but I packed them in my suitcase and wore them neurmerous times over a 3 week trip. They are Good American (my 2nd pair and I can’t say enough good things about the fit of this brand) Good Straight with raw hem. A lighter color is available here and it’s worth searching these on Poshmark to see if they come up in your size.
Josh and I stayed an extra day and after dropping the team off at the airport we planned a day to ourselves. Our first stop was Palisades Village to visit Sweet Laurel Bakery, a spot I had followed for years. It was just as beautiful as I’d seen and the gluten free treats were spot on. My sister-in-law bought me the SWEET LAUREL COOKBOOK years ago and every recipe I have tried has turned out perfect, its a real winner if you have food allergies.
Also at Palisades Village, we stopped by Hank’s for the best gluten free breakfast sandwich and had a very leisurely breakfast as the early morning Pacific fog began to lift. The restaurant was completely deserted and had a very old Hollywood feel to it, jazz standards playing…
It was a perfect Saturday and we ended the day (and trip) with takeaway dessert and tea in bed.
