I’ve been wanting to write this post for a while now with ideas for travel outfits that aren’t leggings. I’m always on the hunt (either online or IRL) for the perfect travel outfit. Dressed up travel outfits are hard to find, so I thought I would share some of what I’ve worn to fly in recently.
This is “probably” my most unpopular opinion… but I don’t think leggings are pants. I only own one pair and I wear them for exercising. That’s it. To each her own, but I love to put an outfit together and get dressed up.
We travel often for work and usually hit the ground running as soon as our flight arrives. It’s rare that we check into our hotel early to change, so I need to be ready to pop right over to an event. I usually stock my necessities in my tote, fill Hugo’s backpack with snacks and activities and try to have what I need to get me thought the entire day and whatever it may hold. I’ve become pretty efficient over the years!
5 travel outfits that aren’t leggings
Cara Cara New York Claire Dress (same style, similar print) – Raffia Mules (similar here, here & here) Cotton Sweater (mine is ancient, similar here) – Canvas Tote Bag (old)
midi dress + sweater + slip on mules
I wore this on a trip to Dallas. It had been a long time since I flew in a dress, but I actually loved it. This gorgeous dress from Cara Cara New York (via Rent The Runway) was easy to wear. Slip shorts made me feel extra covered with this wide skirt and I always have a sweater for the airplane or a quick makeshift pillow for Hugo.
I also got so many compliments throughout my day, which is always so nice when you have something to chat about with fellow travelers.
Reiss Lili Kick Flare Pants (sold out, similar here and here) – black tee shirt (target) Jenni Kayne Sweater (similar color) – White Slingback Flats
black stretch trousers + black tee + sweater + flats
I bought these amazing Reiss dress pants (score from Nordstrom Rack! Now sold out, but there are a few on Poshmark) and they are made out of a really thick and stretchy material that is perfect for travel. I feel polished and the pants keep their shape for multiple wears making them a suitcase MVP. I paired these with a black tee, cream sweater and white slingback flats.
Amazon Matching Pant Set – Raffia Mules (similar here, here & here) – Cream Tote (old, but I just ordered this new one in black)
black matching set + raffia mules
I have worn this matching black pants set from Amazon more times than I can count! I sized up to a large and I think it is a chic, oversized, jetset kind of look. The bonus is that you can easily break up the pieces to wear with other items (the pants with a sleek tank, necklace and heels, or the top as a cover up for the pool.)
Faux Leather Jogger (similar here and here) – Striped Sweater (only a few left, but try this) and these Amazon Heels that I have actually worn to fly in, for all day events, etc.
leather joggers + sweater + slingback pumps
I bought these faux leather joggers from LOFT a while ago and they are very comfortable and look so stylish for traveling. I’ve worn them with a white button down and flats or as seen here with a striped sweater and slingback heels.
stretch jean + white blouse + trench + slides
I am one of the weirdos that doesn’t mind flying in jeans! Although, I will say that either a wide leg denim or one with a good bit of stretch makes all the difference! A classic jeans and white button down is one of my go-to looks. These straight leg jeans from Good American are great for travel!
