There are few things in life that I love more than a holiday. I love the big ones, the small ones and sometimes we even celebrate the irrelevant ones too (because, why ever not?!) With Valentine’s Day falling right before Josh’s birthday and within a few weeks of our anniversary, I’ve always needed a gifting plan. We love to go out for dinner or travel for our anniversary, Josh loves sushi and new clothes for his birthday and for Valentine’s Day I always put together these sweet little baskets full of favorite things.
What I love about this tradition is that you really can do it all at the last possible moment. I’ve made these at home, on film sets and in hotel rooms while traveling, I usually place a Target pickup order (or if I’m really living right, a solo trip to wander the aisles…) or Amazon prime and have the items available right away. Everything can be placed into baskets that you already own or cute gift bags/boxes. One of my favorite things to do is to take the time to write a beautiful note or letter and include it with your treats. It really adds to the intentionality of the gift and makes it feel high-effort.
I bought Hugo this basket from Olli and Ella years ago, I’ve used it as his Easter Basket and I will usually fill it up with little surprises for each holiday. I didn’t anticipate this day coming, but it feels like he’s outgrown this and I’ll probably be forced to buy him some horrible plastic Jurassic Park bucket for our annual easter egg hunt. CLUTCH PEARLS! Thank goodness, I’m starting over with a sweet baby who will let me dress him in fancy things and appreciates a miniature woven picnic basket.

How To Build A Valentine’s Day Basket:
My formula for kids is simple: a classic Russell Stover chocolate box and treats (either salty or sweet) + something crafty (legos or a craft kit) + cute pajamas (Janie & Jack is my go-to, but my striped Christmas pjs from J. Crew do holiday double time!) + something cute and small, socks, a little toy, etc.

For Josh, I like to fill it with healthy treats (mini olipop soda, Hu chocolate bars, pomegranate seeds, etc) + fun socks or boxers + a handwritten note or entry into our shared journal.
